Two quick observations:
i) Chivalry is a Christian tradition. When Christianity dies, chivalry dies.
ii) If you think this life is all you've got, and it's a choice between your life and the next guy's, then it's not surprising that self-preservation trumps self-sacrifice.

ReplyDeleteThe interesting bits included the survey of some historical bits where it was "women and children last". However, the point of the article was pretty fuzzy, especially toward the end.
I mean, that's when the author should have been bringing his points together and presenting them as a coherent position. Instead, we're left with a confused and conflicted position, the central point of which seems to be "chivalry is dead in today's present culture because it has no moral basis, but I feel like it is ok anyway".
