1. On the one hand, the Catholics railing against Pachamama will accept the Blessed Virgin Mary in her various racial/ethnic forms across various places at various times (e.g. Medjugorje, Fatima, Lourdes, Guadalupe).
On the other hand, these same Catholics won't accept Pachamama as Our Lady of the Amazon despite the fact that Pachamama is clearly the Blessed Virgin Mary under a different name! Pity the indigenous Amazonians who haven't had much of a break since the Spanish and Portugese made landfall in South America.
2. I think the main problem is public relations or advertising. The indigenous Amazonians obviously need to change their strategy in how they market Pachamama to these Catholics.
3. Might I suggest the following:
These anti-Pachamama Catholics seem to be predominantly male conservative Catholics in the West. If so, the indigenous Amazonians need to appeal to what would persuade male conservative Catholics in the West.
4. To be specific, the indigenous Amazonians shouldn't market Pachamama like this:
This image would be attractive to liberal Catholics in the West who are all about saving the environment, climate change, Earth goddesses, and the like. However, it's not attractive to male conservative Catholics in the West, because conservative Catholics don't typically buy into these sorts of things (e.g. global warming skepticism).
5. Instead, I'd recommend the indigenous Amazonians market Pachamama more like this:
After all, most Catholics in the West, whether liberal or conservative, and especially males, appear to thoroughly enjoy superheroes and comic books. They love to talk about the latest superhero movie or tv show or related stuff. They spend time on film analysis and other critical studies about superheroes and comic books vis-à-vis Christianity.
This has the added potential benefit of bringing in non-Catholics who enjoy superhero fare too!
In short, the second image of Pachamama should have wider appeal among Catholics in general (as well as Westerners in general) without any of the drawbacks involved in the first image.
If the Amazonians take this route, then it shouldn't be too long before Catholics including male conservative Catholics are swayed to adopt Pachamama as Our Lady of the Amazon!
(Cue Wonder Woman theme song.)
😆
ReplyDeleteThis is the authentic Our Lady of the Amazon https://images.app.goo.gl/rfvz5vY7MgkNztgb8
ReplyDeleteYou can clearly see that she is the Pachamama with clothes 😆
BRILLIANT!!!
ReplyDeleteLol, thanks, guys! 😄
ReplyDeleteOf course, another popular Amazonian besides Wonder Woman would have been amazon.com but an online book store was a harder sell to the marketing department.
