Bryan Cross version of the atonement

Isaiah 53:10: Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer (NIV);
Isaiah 53:10: Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief (ESV).

Bryan Cross on the atonement, speaking of Isaiah 53, says:
This means that Christ carried in His body the sufferings that sin has brought into the world, and that Christ suffered in His soul over all the sins of the world, and their offense against God. He bore our iniquities not in the sense that God punished Him for what we did, but in the sense that He grieved over them all, in solidarity with us. That is what it means that the Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

  1. Over at the Green Baggins thread, Turretinfan has been badgering him (in the kindly Turretinfan way) to produce some official church document in support of this. But to no avail.

    1. Official Roman Catholic church document or historic church document in general?

  2. Re-directed hate or vengenance was NOT the reason why the Father wanted the Christ to be crushed and suffer and ultimately die. The Father does not sense any hatred (Matthew 5:43-48). The reason why the Father wanted His Son to die and suffer was so that He might thus redeem mankind from the power of hatred and death.
