How Two Covenant Theologians View Dispensationalism

  1. The problem with nailing down dispensational thought is that there is no one theologian or group of theologians authorized to speak for dispensationalism. There is no dispensationalist confession of faith analogous to what we in the Reformed community have.

    Some dispensationalists have had there credentials questioned for this or that particular view or have self-identified themselves differently (e.g., MacArthur's “leaky” dispensationalism). In fact MacArthur is a good example of how compromise on dispensational issues has led to confusion in other areas, i.e., his soft Calvinism.

    There are plenty of dispensationalists in the pews who still carry the old Scofield Bible, and who, depending on how the question is phrased, might agree with trichotomy or multiple ways of salvation.
