For Singer, apparently, value theory doesn't select for how you should deal with an issue; rather, the issue selects for which value theory you should espouse. Pick you pet issue, then pick whatever value theory supports your pet issue.
I noticed the same. "Well, if we take this value theory, it won't get the results I want so... maybe we should pick another value theory."
