Yesterday I listened to a lecture by J.P. Moreland on the topic of Petitionary Prayer and I found his testimonies to answered prayer encouraging. Though, I disagreed when he warned people of the danger and error of praying for things that would require God to override human free will (which is consistent with his Arminianism). His theology of prayer really narrows God's ability to answer prayer. Also, he seems to think that you should always pray for very specific things. I don't think that's always necessary or wise since God may have something better that's either totally different; or similar but the specifics of which are different.
FYI, I've collected some other links to J.P. Moreland audio/video HERE.
