    1. I remember seeing a full-page version of that ad. Oh wow.

  2. Great Pic! Proof that Cigarette advertizing works: My grandmother had a bunch of cool old National Geographics from the 50's and 60's that I used to look through when we would go to her place. I remember one add that had a doctor in his office, wearing his coat, stethoscope hanging from his neck smoking a Lucky Strike, and the caption read "9 out of 10 doctors recommend Lucky Strikes". Obviously I knew at the time that smoking is horrifically unhealthy. However, in my early 20's I (foolishly) decided that smoking would be a great habit to pick up, so my first pack was Lucky Strike unfiltered cigarettes. All of this because I thought the add was ironically funny, and because they always smoked Lucky Strikes in the war movies I loved to watch. Of course, quitting smoking was one of the hardest things I have ever done, and I still fall off the wagon occasionally, and end up having to spring the $40 for a box of Nicorette gum to step down off the cravings.

    1. Jed, I can't imagine how (or why) anybody can get through those first couple of puffs to get started. It must have been that way since people have ever smoked. It must really have been "a great habit" back then, to get everyone into it.

    2. Sorry to hear about all that, Jed. For what it's worth, I thought you might find this article helpful?
