I haven't read this book, but I've noticed the same tendencies in Ehrmam. They come out especially forcefully in his debate with Craig. But why should he stop writing these books? -- they're selling like bottes of water at an Iron Man competition in Death Valley.
For those interested, here's my argument on "How Confucius Proves Jesus;" (partly from my book Why the Jesus Seminar can't find Jesus, which beats up on some of Bart's comrades in arms) it takes a rather different approach from the norm:
