Protestant Ecclesiology

The Other Paul recently discussed ecclesiology with Gavin Ortlund. They made a lot of significant points.

  1. Thanks heaps for the share! Indeed, many solid points were discussed. I think the key lack for us Protestants is on Roman and Eastern claims of the indefectibility of the Church, how we should understand scriptural passages on such. We grant them too much and don't call out the assumptions, such as that an error (even with no effect on salvation) cannot become "universally" accepted (scare quotes because of the limited sources we have for all periods).

    1. Hey Paul, random question but I've seen your channel (and saw you on Geoff's too). Mind if ask where you're from state-wise in Aus? Speaking as a Sydneysider aha - haven't seen too many Aussies in the RC/EO apologetics arena so to speak

    2. I agree, Paul, that the assumptions about the indefectibility of the church that they bring to these discussions are important and should be addressed more. And their claims about what was universally accepted often include problematic assumptions.

    3. Heyy Swrath, I'm also a Sydneysider! Western part. Defs agreed, we Aussies need a greater presence in these debates
