I've noticed this trend also. I have to laugh when I see a girl saving the world. That's a guy's job. In the real world who would you want to protect you if some guy is breaking into your house? A girl or a guy? Would it matter?
1. I think the medical science about men vs. women is quite clear. Frankly, women are just physically weaker than men by most measures, generally speaking. For example, I don't normally link to Wikipedia entries, but the entry on sex differences in human physiology provides a decent starting point to dig deeper into the issues (e.g. see the section on "muscle mass and strength").
2. On a lighter note:
"women can do anything men can do (except open a jar of pickles of course)"
Just in the single year 2017, Olympic, World, and U.S. Champion Tori Bowie's 100 meters lifetime best of 10.78 was beaten 15,000 times by men and boys. (Yes, that’s the right number of zeros.)
The same is true of Olympic, World, and U.S. Champion Allyson Felix’s 400 meters lifetime best of 49.26. Just in the single year 2017, men and boys around the world outperformed her more than 15,000 times.
As a former track and field sprinter, I appreciate this comment! Interestingly, I was running ~11.0 seconds for the 100 meters in high school. I think I was about 17 years old. I think I could've gotten under 11 seconds if I had continued training at the college level - not that any college would have allowed such a slow time for men!
As I recall, the fastest guy in our high school (who went on to run state) was a black athlete who ran about the same as Bowie...on his mediocre days!

Au contraire! :)
Here's a quick, meme-y way to illustrate that point:
