Since I am enjoying looking up hymns, I can contribute here. Again common source, wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finlandia_Hymn
"The Finlandia Hymn (in Finnish Finlandia-hymni) refers to a serene hymn-like section of the patriotic symphonic poem Finlandia, written in 1899 and 1900 by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. It was later re-worked by the composer into a stand-alone piece."
Later this melody was used in at least 6 christian hymns.
It's a great hymn, one of my favorites. But this edition leaves out and rearranges some of the lyrics. And I think adult singers would be more appropriate for a hymn like this one. Here's the Cyber Hymnal page, which has more stanzas.
Thanks, Jason. I didn't realize all that (apologies to all). Very good to know. Thanks especially for directing people to the Cyber Hymnal page too, where I trust they'll be edified. :-)
