Dr. Kennedy goes home to be with the Lord

Dr. D. James Kennedy (1930-2007) went home to be with the Lord today.

  1. That was a life well lived.

He was a significant influence in my life, especially early on. Much of the Christian influence in my early life, outside of the church I attended, was by means of television, and D. James Kennedy's program was among the most orthodox, thoughtful, and responsible programs on the air. (It still is.) I've probably heard hundreds of his sermons, and his influence on my thinking surely goes far beyond what I remember. He consistently encouraged a high view of God, of His word, and of life in general. He didn't have the trivializing spirit of our age.

Given the apologetic nature of this blog, it's worth noting that D. James Kennedy was often near the forefront of apologetics on television. He responded to ABC's "The Search For Jesus", and he produced a response to The Da Vinci Code, for example. He often featured conservative scholars, like Paul Maier and D.A. Carson, on these and other programs. How many other Christian television programs ever even mention such scholars, let alone interview them on the air?

Thank God for a man who ran the race to win (1 Corinthians 9:24)!

"a great man has fallen this day in Israel" (2 Samuel 3:38)
