Some of the participants in the thread suggest that the problem is just with Loftus' lack of skill in oral debating. They sometimes even refer to how good his books supposedly are. But it's not just a matter of a lack of oral debate skills. There are a lot of problems with his books as well. (We have a few e-books responding to him on the side bar of this blog, if anybody is interested.) Much of what Loftus says in his debate with Wood is similar to or the same as what he says in his books. He didn't just present the material poorly. The material is poor.
As one commenter put it, "It's hard to win a debate when you're wrong."That's his basic problem.
People like Loftus are useful foils because they say what lots of deeply ignorant people actually think. When their foolishness is exposed and refuted, it helps.
