Desiring God After Twenty-Five Years

I consider John Piper's Desiring God the best book I've read outside of the Bible. Justin Taylor has a good post on the twenty-fifth anniversary edition of the book, including an interview with Piper.

  1. Not read much Piper. There's just something about American Baptists.

I consider Samuel Rutherford's Free Disputation the best book I have read outside of the Bible. Not much room for paradoxes and mysteries in Rutherford's tightly woven view of church and state. It was the book that covinced me to be a scripturalist.

  2. I haven't read that book by Rutherford, but he is a good writer. My favorite hymn is The Sands Of Time Are Sinking, which is derived from Rutherford's writings.

  3. I'm not a fan of the John Piper's overall theology, though I don't disagree, he proclaims the Gospel.

So, God bless him for 25 years of proclaiming the Gospel (despite his theological short-comings).
