My Favorite Marcion

I think I’ve made clear here that there are portions of the OT I cannot make sense of and have given up trying. I see them as Hebrew literature. God chose to include them in our canon. Jesus sometimes contradicted them. There is much wisdom in the OT but also much that is dark and impenetrable.

Incidentally, denigrating “Hebrew literature” is the classic position of Nazi theologians like Gerhard Kittel, Paul Althaus, and Emmanuel Hirsch.

  1. I guess the value of having a shorter canon is that there is less to study, but what remains seems only to make sense in light of what the Hebrews wrote.

  2. That title is priceless... yet well earned by Olson. What a thing to say!

  3. Olson, and guys like Greg Boyd, are brothers in Christ, and yet they seem to not like the tradition of the Church in our doctrinal statements in this one sphere. I see them as brothers, and yet, I am glad you challenge them the way you do, and are able to. I like to jump in and share my heart, and Holy Scripture as well, but I am not a good match for these blokes to debate the Holy Writ.
I wish you, brothers like RC Sproul would have an open deabte with Olson and Boyd, and others.

    Thanks for the post.
