Qualifications for the new Pope that would bear most fruit. He should believe that— John Piper (@JohnPiper) August 30, 2018
justification is by faith alone,
baptism is a sign not a cause of regeneration,
Christ is at the Lord’s Supper by memory and faith not physically,
the Bible alone has final authority not the pope.
A Pope with these qualifications was not a Pope. It would be an ontological impossibility.
ReplyDeleteI think that is Piper's point. He is employing irony. A 'Pope' with these qualities would be deliberately contrary to the whole absurd system that is Roman Catholicism, and would thus necessitate its non-existence. And wouldn't that be a wonderful blessing.
DeleteTheir article about the Pope saying he would address the scandal until he discussed global warming turned out to be true. Maybe this one will too: https://babylonbee.com/news/pope-francis-replaced-by-john-piper/
