Doublethink

From George Orwell's 1984:

The Ministry of Truth—Minitrue, in Newspeak—was startlingly different from any other object in sight. It was an enormous pyramidal structure of glittering white concrete, soaring up, terrace after terrace, 300 metres into the air. From where Winston stood it was just possible to read, picked out on its white face in elegant lettering, the three slogans of the Party:

WAR IS PEACE
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

1. It's amazing how the coronavirus has all but magically disappeared overnight.

After all, on the one hand, I remember how liberals were libsplaining to us that it was our solemn duty to socially distance and obey lockdowns a mere week or so ago. This included forbidding large gatherings of church services.

On the other hand, it's now evidently perfectly fine to gather in large crowds for dance parties:

Yet there's been no vaccine for the coronavirus. I guess this must mean the coronavirus is no longer a public health threat. I guess it's vanished into thin air!

2. More examples:

3. In short, I guess yesterday's liberal narrative (coronavirus bad! socially distance good!) has been superseded by today's liberal narrative (what coronavirus? protests and looting and riots good!).

However, large gatherings of families and friends at weddings or funerals and large gatherings to worship God at church are still bad. Sorry, the coronavirus only disappeared for the left, not for conservatives and other normal people.

It's something straight out of Orwell.

  1. Orwell himself couldn't have made this stuff up.
