Christ or a College Degree?

It is a sad day in the United States when a Christian is given the ultimatum to either ditch Christ or get kicked out of grad school. See the details of Jen Keeton's story below.

Augusta State Univ. to counseling student: change your beliefs or get out

Keeton, 24, is pursuing her master’s degree in counseling at Augusta State. After her professors learned of her biblical beliefs, specifically her views on homosexual conduct, from both classroom discussions and private conversations with other students, the school imposed the re-education plan. Keeton never denigrated anyone in communicating her beliefs but merely stated factually what they were in appropriate contexts.

The plan assails Keeton’s beliefs as inconsistent with the counseling profession and expresses suspicion over “Jen’s ability to be a multiculturally competent counselor, particularly with regard to working with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (GLBTQ) populations.” The plan requires her to take steps to change her beliefs through additional assignments and additional “diversity sensitivity training.” It also orders her to “work to increase exposure and interactions with gay populations. One such activity could be attending the Gay Pride Parade in Augusta.”
So, my 64 million dollar question for the powers that be at Augusta State University is this: Why stop with GLBTQ sensitivity training for Jen Keeton? Why not PB training too? (P = Pedophilia; B = Bestiality).

After all, I'm sure NAMBLA and the human-animal porn industry could use some counseling services too!

Seems like their ability to be multiculurally competent, particularly with regard to working with Christian populations, is rather suspect...

  2. The agenda is to PUSH to make fornication normal. And homosexual fornication normal. In fact, they will say, and demand, that if you have a desire for the same sex, then you will be abnormal if you seek to be set free of such desires, and seek to desire the opposite sex.

    Amazing.

I pray that Jen will stand firm in speaking the Bible truth in love. Amen.

  3. Whether or not she weathers this storm, these verses hold True for everyone of us who name the Name of Christ in all the things we do in this civil realm:

    1Pe 3:10 For "Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit;
1Pe 3:11 let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.
1Pe 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
1Pe 3:13 Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good?
1Pe 3:14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,
1Pe 3:15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
1Pe 3:16 having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
1Pe 3:17 For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God's will, than for doing evil.
1Pe 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,
1Pe 3:19 in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison,
1Pe 3:20 because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.

Here is my prayer for Jen and her observers:

    LORD, BLESS THIS YOUNG LADY

    FILL HER WITH PEACE

STRENGTHEN HER WITH YOUR SPIRIT AND GRACE

LET EVERYTHING SHE DOES BE DONE IN DECENCY AND ORDER, WITH A MEEK AND QUIETNESS THAT COMES FROM YOU

BLESS HER AS SHE BLESSES AND CURSES NOT

GIVE HER A RESOLVE TO ACCEPT FREELY YOUR LOVE THAT SHE MIGHT LOVE HER ENEMIES EVEN THOUGH THEY HATE HER AND YOU!

Psa 139:21 Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you?
Psa 139:22 I hate them with complete hatred; I count them my enemies.
Psa 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!
Psa 139:24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

  4. I had a friend, recently, enrolled in the Purdue PhD program (in philosophy) do all of his coursework; he got to his dissertation topic, couldn't find a sponsor because it was too "Christian." Once they found that out, and the atheists philosophers who head that department blackballed him --- basically putting pressure on all the profs in the dept. not to sponsor my friend; by default he couldn't finish his PhD (he is now at "Highland theological").

It's all politics . . . truth is only a marketing tool, or a construct of each person's soloptic perspective (so the atheist).

  5. I think you are all forgetting how a belief that gays and lesbians are evil and their lifestyle is an abomination would affect a counselors ability to remain impartial.

"Seems like their ability to be multiculurally competent, particularly with regard to working with Christian populations, is rather suspect..."

Christian bigotry does not have to be tolerated. If you have real reasons, other than biblical verses, for why you hold these beliefs, do share.

True, and I think you forgot to read the end of this post where it says that to be logically consistent you would have to demand they believe pedophilia and beastiality aren't evil either.

"Christian bigotry does not have to be tolerated. If you have real reasons, other than biblical verses, for why you hold these beliefs, do share."

I guess you think pedophilia and beastiality are okay then, right? If not, that makes you just as much a bigot as you say we Christians are in our denunciation of gay practices.

Oh, by the way, no Bible verses have been brought up either in this post or even in this comment section either.

I think you're forgetting how a belief that "gays and lesbians are evil and their lifestyle is an abomination would affect a counselors ability to remain impartial" is itself anything but an impartial statement. You're making a pejorative statement against Christians.

What's more, secular or irreligious counselors are hardly "impartial."

Christian bigotry does not have to be tolerated.

Your bigotry against Christians doesn't have to be tolerated either.

If you have real reasons, other than biblical verses, for why you hold these beliefs, do share.

For starters, look at the health risks associated with living a homosexual lifestyle (e.g. see Facts About Youth, which is sponsored by the American College of Pediatricians along with other medical organizations).

  8. I don't know how one "changes their beliefs" like turning off a switch.

There was a similar occurrence at a Catholic University recently.

Here's the thing: most of this is with the administrators and faculty. I attended Ohio State for a time, and most students are rarely that sensitive or fragile, whatever their political, religious or even sexual persuasion. Many even find the airing of dissenting opinion a form of entertainment.

That being said, I think a counseling degree (whatever that entails) is primarily based on secular ideologies. She wasn't, as far as I could tell, training to become a Christian counselor. Thus, the framework for what constitutes being "psychologically sound" (whatever that means) is going to be primarily a secular one guided by ideals as set forth by the APA (among others). The APA doesn't classify homosexuality as a "mental illness", and it doesn't recognize the concept of "sin".

Still, I would not have suggested she change her beliefs or mandated some sort of diversity training nonsense.

  9. "The APA doesn't classify homosexuality as a "mental illness", and it doesn't recognize the concept of "sin"."

I wonder what God, who is the owner of this world and all of mankind, would think of this type of thinking?

Is secular 100% atheistic? No God whatsoever? No morals?

We are simply animals, like apes, who are simply living our lives out. And so if I were to go into a person's house and slaughter all their children, it would not be sin, nor wrong?

    Just thinking out loud.

  10. Lest we forget a primary reality here, because of the transgressions of Adam God declares none righteous, no not one.

Sin is sin. All sin is dangerous.

King Solomon and Jeremiah seem, in my view, to say it best and Jesus too:

    King Solomon
Ecc 3:16 Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, even there was wickedness, and in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness.
Ecc 3:17 I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work.
Ecc 3:18 I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts.
Ecc 3:19 For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.
Ecc 3:20 All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return.
Ecc 3:21 Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down into the earth?
Ecc 3:22 So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his work, for that is his lot. Who can bring him to see what will be after him?

    Jeremiah
Jer 13:23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Then also you can do good who are accustomed to do evil.
Jer 13:24 I will scatter you like chaff driven by the wind from the desert.
Jer 13:25 This is your lot, the portion I have measured out to you, declares the LORD, because you have forgotten me and trusted in lies.
Jer 13:26 I myself will lift up your skirts over your face, and your shame will be seen.
Jer 13:27 I have seen your abominations, your adulteries and neighings, your lewd whorings, on the hills in the field. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will it be before you are made clean?"

  11. continuing:

    and Jesus, then:
Luk 20:17 But he looked directly at them and said, "What then is this that is written: "'The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone'?
Luk 20:18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him."

To Nicodemus Jesus said "you must be born again". Peter went and exegeted that revelation by having written these words on our behalf, those of us God has given the Gift of Faith and Grace too, that is:

1Pe 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1Pe 1:4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
1Pe 1:5 who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

It is clear to me now and these other Words of Christ now make perfectly good sense in light of the fight we faceoff daily, now:

Luk 13:1 There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.
Luk 13:2 And he answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way?
Luk 13:3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
Luk 13:4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem?
Luk 13:5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."

    AND

Luk 20:33 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will the woman be? For the seven had her as wife."
Luk 20:34 And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage,
Luk 20:35 but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage,
Luk 20:36 for they cannot die anymore, because they are equal to angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
Luk 20:37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in the passage about the bush, where he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.
Luk 20:38 Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for all live to him."

Just to recap King Solomon, without the Spirit of Grace and Truth, humans are but beasts.

And we should by now realize the activity of beasts. Dogs come to mind. I will be vulgar now, please forgive me? Dogs and other beasts I have been around seem to get their noses into everything! YUCK!

As I said, sin is sin and God deals with all sin even the sins being focused on in this thread:::>

1Co 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,
1Co 6:10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
1Co 6:11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
