I've been leading a study on Genesis for the last few months and I defended the interpretation that the snake had a different form prior to the curse but now I'm thinking I was dead wrong.
Heiser makes a good connection of the "serpent" (upright, shining one) of Genesis 3 with Isaiah 14:12ff - "shining one". (although they are different Hebrew words)
However, he does not explain the NT allusions to the serpent and that he was a dragon; and clearly says "Satan" was that serpent/dragon- Revelation 12:9, 20:2; also 2 Corinthians 11:3.
"dragon" may be the indication that he had legs, etc. before the curse.
True. My link is not a blanket endorsement of all his esoteric theories. But I think he makes a point about how to render the Hebrew designation that's worth considering.

I think you mean tempter instead of temper, although his emotional state could also be in question.

Oh, now I see the second article by Dr. Gonzolas has the NT verses and is a more full treatment.
