  1. I appreciate this paper by Frame.

Frame: "Even the demand for repentance is good news, because in context it implies that God, though coming in power to claim his rights, is willing to forgive for Christ's sake."

    Excellent point here!

I would say that "no one" would know about repentance so as to repent unless God wanted that to happen seeing He holds that act of revelation, reserving it to Himself, to reveal it to the one He wants to repent obeying that demand. Matt. 11

Repentance indeed is an action on my part, the one being elected through hearing only after being given the gift of Faith to hear; it follows God's act of electing me. God elects and gives to Christ to reveal that election, ( I will build my Church) and gives to the Holy Spirit the work of electing by sanctifying the elect leading them to Christ.

I can't even put to death my sinful nature. I want to by my flesh but it is weak through the law so putting the deeds of the flesh to death is impossible for me. Rom. 8:7.

I need the outside Word of grace and mercy spoken to me from God that comes through the Spirit for me to put to death the deeds of my flesh.

Rom 8:12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
Rom 8:13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Rom 8:14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
Rom 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!"
Rom 8:16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
Rom 8:17 and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

  2. Steve,

I hadn't realized you posted that when I posted the very same article in a link on GB this evening. Great minds... :)

  3. The problem I see, is that "repent" is seen as different from believing. However, "repent" is an intellectual exercise, a change of mind, not a forsaking of sins. Otherwise, it would be redundant to say "Bring forth fruits meet for repentance". Correct me if I'm mistaken.

  4. Thanks for reminding me/us of this article by Frame. It's among my favorite that he has written which puts some brakes on 2KT drift. I've been posting some 2KT stuff over at my blog. In particular, I pose a case study question for 2KT folk "What should she do: A question for 2KT folk" my blog is www.thereformedmind.wordpress.com

just search for 2kt for my posts on the subject.

As a political scientist, these questions are of serious and professional interest to me.
