Their love and shared sacrifices have led to Bethany saying things like this:
All my life I went to Mass, trying to honor Christ, thinking that I could do some good for him. But I never, ever got what I’m getting from this church. It warms me from my toes to the top of my head. I hope we get to go really, really far with it.On top of everything else that they’re doing, [and they’re doing A LOT, and they have asked me not to blab about it], the church has a meals ministry, and during the time when Beth is in the hospital, and for that month afterward when we’ll be making daily trips to West Penn’s Short Stay Unit, they’ve promised to deliver meals to our home. The way they’ll do this is to prepare frozen meals that we can simply microwave as we need them. Since we only have the freezer that’s part of our refrigerator, and since they intend to send a lot of food our way, which we couldn’t store, they brought in this freezer, to give us some place to keep the food that they’ll deliver.
I’m thinking of Acts 2:44-47:
And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. And maybe Acts 4:32-35:
Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.
I was thinking John 13:35, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

ReplyDeleteAnd we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
John, thanks for keeping us updated. Although your plight seems dreary what great joy there is in your wife's salvation! And what an opportunity He has provided as a witness to Himself.
We continue in prayer for you and yours.
Blessings,
Thanks Constantine. You've been a great friend, thank you for your prayers. Yes, we have our dreary moments, and the uncertainty (that "50%" mark) makes it seem like a crap-shoot, but that brings the need to trust Him so much more clearly into focus.
