Mary as the ark of the covenant

  1. I converted 20 years ago and I so rarely hear this reference in Orthodoxy that I had to look it up. I got Hebrews 9. Mary is the urn inside the Ark that contained the Bread of Life.

Also, the story of Mary going to see Elizabeth in Luke 1 tracks with I Sam 6 and I Chron 13, from Elizabeth making virtually the same exclamation as David in I Sam and the ark remaining for three months at the end of the story in I Chron.

    FWIW.

    1. Mike Winger debunks that argument (among others) here:

    2. For the record, I wasn't making an argument, just an observation. Hence, the "FWIW" at the end. I would have to be even dumber than I am to think you'd reply with, "Oh wow, random internet guy, I've never heard that before and now I've completely changed my mind on the topic!" ;-)

    3. PS, sorry, that should be 2 Sam 6, not I Sam 6....

  2. And when you have multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, declares the LORD, they shall no more say, "The ark of the covenant of the LORD." It shall not come to mind or be remembered or missed; it shall not be made again.- Jer. 3:16

    1. Even if Mary is the New Covenant Ark, she points to Christ in the same way the Old Covenant Ark does. Away from itself and not to itself. God immediate and direct blessing in Christ by the Holy Spirit removes all need for temporary and incomplete intermediates and intermediaries. Once you've found the fount and chosen to live there, you don't need the "Culligan Man" to deliver you water for a price.
