This pitifully illustrates Paul's adage about the despairing grief of unbelievers (1 Thes 4:13). Only the Gospel offers the real possibility of reunion.
Coincidentally, I recently came across this edifying read from Randy Alcorn about his wife's Christian grandmother who had to give up her younger children for adoption when her husband died.
