Of course, similar stuff was said about homosexuality by medical and related organizations in bygone years (e.g. homosexuality is a "mental illness"). In fact, I've read it wasn't until the 1970s that the American Psychiatric Association and the American Psychological Association no longer considered homosexuality a mental disorder.
