Guns Prevented a Worse Massacre in Connecticut — A Little Too Late Though

Not to minimize the tragedy of those who died in Connecticut, but a glaring piece of logic seems to escape many people.

Does anyone know why the Connecticut school killer stopped killing other people and ended up killing himself rather than continuously killing more people—as he intended?

He was alerted that armed individuals (the police) were entering the building! So here we have a good example that guns deter killing.
Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy confirmed on Sunday that authorities believe Adam Lanza was alive when police arrived at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday and only ended his killing spree by shooting himself when he knew the cops were closing in [emphasis mine].
It is a shame that teachers do not have the freedom to defend themselves and their students from mass killers. Instead, all they have is their bodies to throw in front of their students. Why should teachers have to wait for the police to arrive as the teachers and their students get slaughtered?

Incidentally, a similar incident just happened recently at a mall where a killer was confronted by a police officer, so he quickly killed himself. He would have continued to kill more people at the mall if he was not confronted with another armed person.

I've seen several stories like this so far.

  2. But if he didn't have access to guns he probably would have just topped himself.

    1. That's a big if in any country. Laws only hinder those who follow the law.

  3. The high school I went to was in southern country farmland. In those days, the early 1980's, kids would go hunting after school and bring their rifles and shotguns with them in the mornings. We had no incidents. No one would dare.
