Obama 2.0

I expect Obama to be more aggressive in tonight’s debate. However, there’s only so much he can do. Even at his best, he’s not outstanding. He’s not Bill Clinton. He’s not that quick on his feet. Ad libbing is not his strong suit. Indeed, when he does speak off-the-cuff, he tends to make gaffes.

I expect him to memorize some applause lines for the debate, but that’s about it.

  1. I expect to hear "vague" a lot, and "47%" at least once.

  2. I also don't think the second debate matters as much. It will have fewer viewers. And first impressions are tenacious.

  3. I just finished watching the debate. It was at turns boring and boorish. It was standard political theater, neither informative nor encouraging. Both participants took turns doing what politicians do best: while one candidate was speaking, the other sat and grimaced to produce a pile of acrimony, which he then liberally sprinkled with talking points and, upon taking his turn to speak, flung at his opponent. In ironic symbolism, the questions of the citizens became pretexts to recite lines for mini-campaign commercials.

Something will be made of the moderator's performance, none of it interesting. Perhaps the only significant issue was Romney's failure to press Obama on Benghazi. But that will likely be an issue beaten to death in the next debate, which is on foreign policy.

One of my brothers recently gifted me Skyrim. Playing that would have been a better use of my evening. (It certainly would have been more entertaining.)

    1. I was going to watch the second presidential debate, then I took an arrow to the knee.
