Chris Rosebrough threatened with arrest at The Elephant Room

Read about it here.

James MacDonald should be thoroughly ashamed of himself. This merely extends the embarrassing and ridiculous escapades in which he has engaged during this entire Elephant Room situation.

I for one am glad that he has resigned from membership in The Gospel Coalition.
(And on that note, please see this wickedly sharp critique from DJP.)

  1. A friend and I were talking about the pitfalls of the "God has called me" card just the other day. We agreed that so long as what one does is within the bounds of Christian ethics, it would make more sense to justify a decision by saying "God put the desire in me to..." It really surprises me how many people don't recognize what or how dangerous an open canon is.

  2. Why would the Elephant Room folks threaten Rosebrough with arrest when they know (or should have known) that he'd report that he was threatened with arrest.

It would make them look worse than simply allowing him to attend ER2.

Seems rather stupid to me to threaten Rosebrough with arrest.

  3. Erin Benziger: "About 45 minutes ago, a friend and I walked through the doors of Harvest Bible Chapel in Rolling Meadows, IL. Why? To attend The Elephant Room 2, of course! Upon approaching the registration desk, the volunteers noticed that they could not find my name tag. I was ushered to the side, where I was confronted by Harvest Bible Chapel elder Jim Rowan and told that my registration had been revoked and refunded and that I was to leave the premises immediately. Hm, so now what is the elephant in the room?"

This is ridiculous. What is ER2 and Harvest Bible Church and Pastor MacDonald so afraid of?

  4. @Ryan - you still run into a similar unverifiability: Can't prove God put the desire in them. Could just as easily have been one's own deceptive heart.

  5. Jacob, I think all desires are ultimately caused by God and I agree with Edwards that we act according to our strongest desire, which is why I qualified what I said: "...within the bounds of Christian ethics..."

    Damage control.
Not everyone does it well, haha.
