The greatest

Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them (Heb 7:25).

Historians like to rank historical figures based on their historical significance. “Who’s the greatest man who ever lived?”

In this context, greatness is measured in terms of influence on the subsequent course of history. The cut generally selects for conquerors, religious founders, politicians, and scientists.

Of course, this evaluation can be affected by your value-system. Buddhists think Buddha was the greatest, Mohammedans think Muhammad was the greatest.

Richard Dawkins would be loath to say Jesus is the greatest man who ever lived. And in a sense he’s right.

Jesus isn’t the greatest man who ever lived. Rather, Jesus is the greatest man who ever lives

  1. I hear this occasionally where someone says "Jesus was God" or "when Jesus lived" almost as frequently as I hear the Holy Spirit referred to as "it". More frequently I hear people (usually the same ones over and over again) refer to "God and Jesus". My response to this last one is a quick "Jesus is God." I usually get a "Well, you know what I mean." But it really is important to concieve God properly so that our language reflects him accurately.

  2. Philips Craig & Dean would agree with you Jim. I suppose we can start out sharing our faith, and who our God is, and expand on who He is, little by little. It should be a natural way of conversation, shouldn't it.
The Triune God of Scripture, Father, Son & Spirit is The God of the universe; the living God, but it may take a while to get this out on the table at times. Where it may be the very first statement at other times.
