Yet another something that speaks for itself...

  1. Peter, remember, you should view these things "charitably", that is, make sure that your comments arise from a genuine love for the persons about whom (or to whom) you are speaking. It is a good habit to pray for the person you are writing to (or about) both before and after you write your comment. Pray that you will be [ontologically] united with this person in the Body of Christ."

So you can bet that this good pope was praying while he was watching, praying to be ontologically united with these young men in the Body of Christ. It is, after all, not totally inconsistent to think that these topless young men were simply good Catholic boys, perhaps former altar boys who, starstruck, were simply making the attempt to impress il papa.

And after all, that shoo-ing hand motion by il papa, it is not totally inconsistent to think that he was simply, in paternal fashion, simply telling them to go put their shirts back on.

  2. That was something to behold. It just keeps on getting sillier and sillier don't it.

That was some kind of big church!

I wonder what does go through a man's mind like this pope when he sits in such a powerful position. Does he love his power? Would I love to be powerful and esteemed by hundreds of millions of people?

  3. You know that the economy is really bad when Chippendales start moonlighting as acrobats.

  4. I found nothing homoerotic about that. Well, at least until they started the bad '80s porn soundtrack.

  5. Was the Pope scorning these verses or commending a part of it when he stood and waved his hands in the manner he did after that acrobatic feat?

Here are the verses that got these young firmly fit and strong men to attain to such acrobatic balance:

1Ti 4:7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
1Ti 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
1Ti 4:9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

The notion that the more things change the more they stay the same comes to mind seeing this church has a history of pleasing Popes and Cardinals with partly clad or nude displays by their subjects in their service to them!

  6. I must wonder: is Europe's culture is highly sexualized as ours is?

The problem we Americans have is that activities once seen as innocuous have, in our sexually charged culture, become suspect: it's the reason many adult males are reluctant to express any physical affection towards young children in public, for example, no matter how innocent the gesture.

Acrobats in the circus often perform without shirts, especially when tricky maneuvering is involved. So do pro wrestlers for that matter.

And natam, there's nothing wrong with being in shape, especially given the fact that 1/3 of American adults are obese (which often signifies a lack of discipline and self-control).

Oh, you mean like parades and public restrooms? Yes, it's a pity. Wonder who's responsible.

Yes, pity poor Kevin Jennings, unable to express affection for those in his charge publicly, according to the videos he distributes.

James, I'm sure you're only motivated by the highest ideals and compassion for those adult males, and the children who would be the objects of their ... affection.
