My God is More Sovereign Than Your God!

Perry Robbinson states,

"First, a Voluntaristic view of God is far more sovereign than your view of God since he is not constrained or limited by his character."

******************

A god that can make a squared circle is far more sovereign (and omnipotent) than your god since he is not constrained by laws of logic.

A god that can kill himself is far more sovereign (and omnipotent) than your god since he's not constrained by his necessary nature.

A god that can make the morning star and the evening star refer to two different stars is far more sovereign (and omnipotent) than your god since he's not constrained by meaning.

A god that can lie is for more sovereign (and omnipotent) than your god since he's not constrained by pesky moral rules.

  4. Oh boy. Hey Steve or Paul, when will you do a theology 101 post for these neophyte atheists like "In_His_Image"?

  5. A god that can abrogate his revealed revelation is far more sovereign (and omnipotent) than your god since he doesn't have to do what he says.

A god that leads those who claim to be his church into a 100% deceptive tradition is far more sovereign (and omnipotent) than your god since he can screw up "œcumencial" councils to his heart's content. And that's just fun stuff.

    I appreciate your candid self-evaluation.

  7. oh no. Did he just say God was made up?

I think I just lost my faith. I just never heard that one before. I am compelled by the sheer brilliance of the argument, combined with the irrefutable "haw haw haw" - I just have to concede. Wow.

  8. Not limited by His character?!?!? How incomprehensible! Either God is true to His character or it's not truly His character.

  9. Mike Jones,

Its SILLY for someone to say God is 'made up.'

He's written about in a book of course....

    written by people...

    oh...oops...

  10. Anonymous acts as if the only reason people have to believe in God is because of the testimony of the Bible.

But, secondly, one could mimmick his comment by saying that he only believes in George Washington because he's written about in books....books made by people....oops.

When one's argument reduces to the claim that there is no reason to believe that George Washington existed, you can pretty much wash your hands of him. Posssibly recommend the looney bin.

  11. There are LOTS of good reasons to believe in Christianity, not "just" the Bible (although its enuff for me!)

    There is also:

    1. Personal Experience
    2. Family Indoctrination
    3. Spiritual Feelings

oh wait...every other religion has those things too....

And if George Washington existed or not...doesn't really matter, does it?

    Same as Jehovah.

  12. What remarkably over simplified stupidity demonstrating an almost total lack of understanding and the usual misrepresentation of Christianity. People complain because T-bloggers are "mean" yet when the same ignorance comes up over and over again.....sigh.
