Steve reviewed God is Not Great here.

  1. Steve,

Can you (or have you) done a review of "God: The Failed Hypothesis" (by some other village atheist). I only ask since you've already done reviews of Dawkins, Hitchens, and Harris, and so, I thought you might as well make it complete with a review of the other popular atheist out there.

    Thanks,
    S&S

  2. That would be Victor Stenger. Apparently, Dawkins gave the book the following humbled, restrained appraisal: "Darwin chased God out of his old haunts in biology, and he scurried for safety down the rabbit hole of physics. The laws and constants of the universe, we were told, are too good to be true: a set-up, carefully tuned to allow the eventual evolution of life. It needed a good physicist to show us the fallacy, and Victor Stenger lucidly does so. The faithful won't change their minds, of course (that is what faith means) but Victor Stenger drives a pack of energetic ferrets down the last major bolt hole and God is running out of refuges in which to hide. I learned an enormous amount from this splendid book."

  3. It sounds like Hitchens is correct in his statement "God Is Not Great" but cannot prove it, due to not doing his homework. I do take exception with his statement "Religion Ruins Everything". Religion may be a ruse, but also may have done more good than harm. Quite possibly a necessary ruse.
