8 Theses for Evangelical Catholic Syncretism

“It is the early Church which published the Bible (the same Church which wrote the early Creeds), and therefore it is to that Church that we must first look to guide our understanding of the deposit of faith found in Holy Scripture.”

—Paul Owen

It is the United Bible Societies which published the Greek New Testament, and therefore it is to the UBS that we must first look to guide our understanding of the deposit of faith found in Holy Scripture.

It is the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft which published the Biblica Hebraica, and therefore it is to the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft that we must first look to guide our understanding of the deposit of faith found in Holy Scripture.

It is Crossway Bibles which published the English Standard Version, and therefore it is to Good News Publishers that we must first look to guide our understanding of the deposit of faith found in Holy Scripture.

  2. We all know that what Owen means is the Roman Church.

We all know that Owen is a member of a schismatic arm of Anglicanism, so, by his own standards, he's not doing what he wants us to do.

We all know that the Church of the past to which he refers contradicts itself today.

Thank you, Dr. Owen, for reminding us why we are Protestants and why you are not.

  3. Ironically Dr. Owen's remark about the Church reflects accurately the reason why a man I know is now about to join the Orthodox Church.

And why some monks on Mount Athos say the Roman Church is apostate.

Aha! But where is it? Certainly not in an odd Anglo-Catholic sect! Is it in Rome or Constantinople? Or Canterbury? Or Gordon Square? Or is it that funny place around the corner?

  5. Steve,

Mr. Baggins is good peeps. He is a more worthy addition to your blogroll than is my much-neglected blog.

    Welcome, Rev. Keister!
