This article by Shelby Steele is the most eloquent rational explanation of why same-sex marriage is a bad idea for society. A rational approach is crucial given the fact that religious doctrine and authority are scarcely recognized in these 'modern'/'post-modern'/'post-Christian' days. BTW if you want to read a great book on modern life and it's irrational conflicts and discontents I highly recommend Bobos In Paradise. It's one of the funniest books I've read in years that's not in the humor section of the bookstore.
