It pretty much is daily fear and daily re-re assurance Christ has worked out my salvation to completion. You once asked why Lutherans need the Sacraments, as they seem superfluous. Now you know. If Christ is going to offer me forgiveness of sins through eating of his body and drinking his blood in the bread and wine, I'm not going to say no.Jeff Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17768185709286407477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6789188.post-33586975118459312492015-10-18T16:27:35.635-04:002015-10-18T16:27:35.635-04:00According to Lutheran theology, a born-again Chris...According to Lutheran theology, a born-again Christian can lose his salvation. Therefore, Lutheranism can't offer the assurance of salvation. Hence, your objection boomerangs on Lutheranism. Saved today, damned tomorrow stevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16547070544928321788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6789188.post-57022806469828669192015-10-18T13:47:58.258-04:002015-10-18T13:47:58.258-04:00I disagree. Stark terror is rational. "Just avoid doing things that are damnable!" Well that is swell advice, but it does not go far enough. This is more like it: "And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire."

Denying yourself a happy life!? What is a happy life if there is a possibility it might end in doom? Have you read Ecclesiastes?

BUT, there is good news. God sent his beloved Son who died for you for the forgiveness of your sins. Believe this and be baptized.Jeff Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17768185709286407477noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6789188.post-66837922825902091542015-10-18T11:41:26.094-04:002015-10-18T11:41:26.094-04:00I'm working my way through Luther's commen...I'm working my way through Luther's commentary on Galatians. There are many translations in English and some are better than others. Most or all are abridgements because the original so lengthy.

In the commentary Luther often deals with the issue of assurance. Here's a link to his comments on Gal. 4:6:

Martin Luther on Assurance and the Possession OF and BY the Holy SpiritANNOYED PINOYhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00714774340084597206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6789188.post-38848312776857502972015-10-17T22:17:10.297-04:002015-10-17T22:17:10.297-04:00An edifying post!
