As we know, John did not tell his Gospel story in chronological order but in theological order. He began in chapter one and two establishing who Jesus is and what he did. Then in chapter three, the Gospel meets man (Nicodemus) and the first point of how a man is saved is described as "born again" which is a beautiful way to describe regeneration. The faith is described through the illustration of the Bronze Serpent and the explanations of vv. 16-21. My point -- when the Apostle John explained the Gospel, he began with the person of Christ, then regeneration, then faith and conversion.
