I might have missed something in the news, perhaps.<br /><br />If this relates, I've always had a problem with the phrase "The American people..." ya-da ya-da. I've heard campaign politicians say "The American people have said [fill in the blank]" or "The American people want [fill in the blank]." And I would think, "What American people?"
