Is your argument that because McLaren rejects any metanarrative that is the essential difference between him and theological liberalism? It should be obvious from the general points I made that I didn't utilize that quote to target some set of Pharisee-like Evangelicals in particular, but rather because of the solution offered to what some "perceive" (which is the critical point) as arrogance. McLaren's concerns are broader and more fundamental as they refer to Christianized forms of colonialism or other metanarratives.

So your "strong impression" is irrelevant. Even if the quote contained a misrepresentation, it would be an inconsequential misrepresentation.

I will say that to deny that some Evangelicals engage in the behavior described in the quote is simply to live with your head in the sand. It has been acknowledged as a problematic tendency in some circles by my seminary professors and peers, as well as Christians, and ex-Christians, I know outside of seminary. It's additionally noted as a tendency in the New Testament, most obviously with the Pharisees.Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12784922935749497931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6789188.post-35817576298371354742011-05-18T11:35:49.767-04:002011-05-18T11:35:49.767-04:00Quite simple.
