Instea...You've made a lot of good points, John. Instead of "being who you are", it's better to be who God wants you to be. People being who they think they are, without much guidance beyond that, is largely what's given us twenty trillion dollars of national debt, tens of millions of abortions, etc. Our culture is inordinately concerned with things like self-esteem and asserting our independence. When previous generations referred to concepts like independence and rights, they grounded those in <i>dependence</i> on God and being <i>given</i> rights by a Creator, rights that were more limited and more rationally defensible than the rights people claim to have today. Once you cut off concepts like independence and rights from the Christian foundation they had in our nation's history, they're unmoored and can drift off all over the place, including over a cliff.
